Made for You

What is Custom?

When I started this company in 2016, I had one driving purpose - to make beautiful jewelry that was designed specifically for the woman who would wear it. Fine jewelry, the kind that gets passed down to your daughers and granddaughters along with the stories of how you got it, is too special to not be created for you, with your input and your approval.

That doesn't mean the pressure is on you, and in fact, I find that alot of companies that offer "custom" options get it wrong by putting the client in the driver's seat without offering guidance and expertise to get you where you want to go. When it comes to major financial and emotional investments, wouldn't you rather be chauffered?

Designing a custom piece of jewelry, whether it's an engagement ring or other collectible item, is similar to building a house or commissioning a work of art. It's a collaborative effort - you provide the purpose and the back story, perhaps a new promotion you want to celebrate, an anniversary, a way to honor a loved one, or the most frequent occasion, getting engaged - and I, as the designer, provide design elements, precious materials, and the expertise on both to create a unique piece of jewelry. This experience includes sketching and sourcing and looping you in during the fabrication process. It's a fascinating experience, especially when the end result is something you will wear for decades. I'm a big proponent of matching the process with the purchase, and for something like an engagement ring that holds so much meaning (and value), starting from the beginning with the diamond and having the setting built around it is well worth the time it takes to craft.

To be clear, custom jewelry doesn't have to be designed from scratch every time. The pieces in my band collections are all made to measure. In other words, they are designed to be recalibrated for every finger size and made only when you choose them. (Nothing drives me crazier than sizing a perfectly crafted ring before it's been worn a single day.) Likewise, my signature engagement rings can be made to measure as designed, but most often serve as a starting point for clients to see design elements, craftsmanship, and quality to begin the design process for their own rings.

While engagement rings and wedding bands are important, I have to say the most fun part of my job is telling women's stories through jewelry. It's been the best surprise of all to see how many women are starting to invest in fine jewelry that reflects their life and style. It's always a bittersweet feeling when I hand off a one-of-a-kind piece to it's rightful owner, knowing that I might not see it again!
