MARAH'S STATUE OF LIBERTY EARRINGS INSPIRED BY NYC

BY LINDSEY SCOGGINS STUDIO

MARAH'S STATUE OF LIBERTY INSPIRED EARRINGS COMMEMORATE HER JOURNEY FROM INDIANA TO NYC.

Marah came to Lindsey with a lot to celebrate. She moved to New York from the midwest to continue her career with Goldman Sachs. New York City seems like a world away from her home town in rural Indiana where her mom owns the local apothecary and everyone still goes home for Kentucky Derby weekend. Following her move, Marah wanted to buy a special gift for herself that represented all of her accomplishments to date. What better way to celebrate than with jewelry? She decided to commission a pair of diamond earrings that she could wear in a traditional bank atmosphere (back when people went to the office) but something that was also a good conversation piece.

When designing for Marah, Lindsey wanted to create something symbolic but not too literal. She was reminded of the things she felt when she herself moved to New York.

“This was such a fun design project for me. As a kid, I remember listening to the album Breakfast in America by Supertramp with my dad (it’s still so good, by the way), and the album cover was a scene overlooking a makeshift Manhattan from a plane window with a larger than life diner waitress standing in for the Statue of Liberty. It always made me feel like I would grow up and live somewhere exciting like New York and I wondered what I would do when I got there.”

Inspired by the thought of New York being one of the first places in the country to see the sun rise each morning, the first design incorporated sunshine inspired rays halfway around the center diamond and the other side was octagonal to represent the hustle and bustle of the city. The second design was based on the feeling you get when flying into the city for the first time (we know, it’s every time) and seeing the famous landmarks from a birds eye view, particularly the Statue of Liberty standing tall in the harbor.

For this solitaire design, she flipped the Statue of Liberty’s crown on its head to create a radiating effect and included an arrow pointing north to remind Marah that she can always find her way home. This design made the final cut and the Yearning to Breathe Free studs were born.

Marah’s diamond solitaire Statue of Liberty earrings are both timeless and unique. They are classic enough to wear everyday, but they certainly start many a conversation, whether she wears them on a zoom call, an evening dining al fresco, or breakfast at a diner like a real New Yorker. Cheers to Marah and to celebrating life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
