MIAMI ART BASEL FROM HOME
BY MEREDITH JAYME
THE BEST GALLERIES TO BROWSE FROM YOUR LIVING ROOM— AND JEWELRY TO WEAR
WHILE YOU PRETEND THAT YOU'RE THERE
Another one of 2020’s casualties— Miami’s Art Basel. What would have taken place from December 3rd to the 6th was moved online in the form of Art Basel online viewing rooms. While it certainly isn’t the same to browse from your laptop, we’re grateful the show went on in a safe capacity. While the viewing rooms are no longer available to the public, we put together a selection of a few galleries with online viewing rooms that you can discover now. Enjoy a very 2020 Art Basel from the comfort of home - wearable works of art included. Mix yourself a mojito and pretend you’re in the sunshine state as you discover some inspiring new art.
GALLERIES TO DISCOVER NOW...
Explore Gladstone Gallery’s “Jill Mulleady: Decline & Glory” on view through January 9th. “Shadowplay” painted on an 87 x 46 inch mirror is one of my personal favorites.
Discover the viewing room here.
Pippy Houldsworth’s viewing room has a great selection of past exhibits available to peruse, including their weekly “Insight” feature showcasing work made during lockdown from a different artist each week.
Visit the viewing room here.
Draw on the bold shapes and strong lines of Jacqueline de Jong with these contemporary pieces.
Browse Stevenson’s viewing room which includes exhibits from Penny Siopis, Simphiwe Ndzube, and Mame-Diarra Niang.
Discover Stephen Shore’s latest collection, “Town & Country” in 303 Gallery’s online viewing room. The collection includes a selection of landscapes shot using a drone camera.
Discover “Ruth Asawa: Drawing in Space” on view online and in person in NYC. The exhibit features a collection of Asawa’s iconic sculptures and paintings.
Hanging, protruding, rising, spreading - these pieces are designed to take up space.
GALERIE THOMAS SCHULTE
Explore a selection of Galerie Thomas Schulte’s online viewing rooms. My favorite is the collection of Michael Muller paintings. The dramatic abstract paintings are an inspiration of their own.

Discover some of the Perrotin Gallery’s past exhibits. I was particularly inspired by Jean-Michel Othoniel’s “Kiku” collection. This series is inspired by the Kiku flower which is a Japanese chrysanthemum and represents longevity and rejuvenation.
If you happen to be in Miami, you can see this one in person until January 4th. If you’re not, you can scroll through the Art Basel online viewing room gallery as if you’re actually there. Just grab a cocktail and enjoy.
Similar to 'In Real Life' at the Stephen Friedman Gallery, these pieces focus on sculptural form as objects designed to wrap the human body.
Explore Marian Goodman Gallery’s online viewing room. The Miami Art Basel online viewing room included an incredible selection of works from Nan Goldin, Gabriel Orozco, William Kentridge, and more.
Modern Art is showing a collection of work by Eleonore Koch through January 16th. Immerse yourself and enjoy the full experience by watching an accompanying video.
Discover the viewing room here.
Discover a selection of exhibits featuring works by Raffi Kalenderian, Rico Gatson, and more. You can also view past exhibits. “Mindscapes” by Ryan McGinness is one that I would have loved to see in person.
The least we can say about these designs is they are works of art on their own. Feats of engineering, in some cases. Intended for the one perfect collector.
Mark your calendars for Miami Art Basel’s comeback, scheduled for December 2nd to the 5th of 2021. Contact us to secure your jewelry ahead of time or to commission something new.
